Senior Defense

The Graduate Portfolio and Defense was developed as a graduation requirement because most of the skills students will need to use after high school can't be assessed by a standardized test. The Defense is an opportunity for students to reflect on their learning and reveal the many aspects of their skill sets/interests that will benefit them as they move into college and careers. Students will reflect on what they've learned and create a presentation that celebrates who they are and what they can do. It is an opportunity to brag! (It is also excellent practice for college, internship, and job interviews.)

This is a mandatory requirement, which requires guidance and interaction with Mr.Quaranta.  You must attend English 4A Seminar on Tuesdays at 9:30am. If you have trouble accessing the classes confirm with Ms. Gonzalez and Mr. Quaranta you are added to the roster.

Critical Components (scored using common rubrics):

Part I: Portfolio Content – Assignments must be previously scored
1. RESEARCH, as evidenced via Research paper (6-8 pages) - evidence of student’s critical
thinking skills, use of evidence to support claims, and critical reading ability

2. CREATIVITY, as evidenced via various student work - student work that showcases crea-
tive/innovative solutions, processes and/or actual product

3. WRITTEN COMMUNICATION, via Reflection paper (3-5 pages) - evidence of written com-
munication skills, ability to reflect and assess growth and progress on items 1 and 2 above. This

paper will also serve as the script for the oral presentation.
